Welsh Youth Parliament Week

Join Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament in a week of virtual sessions between 13 and 17 July. During the week, you will have the opportunity to contribute to Youth Parliament consultations and join in discussion and debate sessions, as well as take part in several workshops led by some well-known Welsh people.

Monday

10:00 - Launch of Welsh Youth Parliament Week

14:00 - Workshop: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Join us for an interactive workshop on littering and plastic waste; there will be a conversation with a Member of the Youth Parliament that sits on the Littering and Plastic Waste Committee, and activities with Eco-Schools Wales and Surfers Against Sewage. At the end of the session, you will also have the opportunity to fill in a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle questionnaire by the Youth Parliament.

Tuesday

10:00 - Workshop: What's on your mind?

Find out how the Senedd makes decisions on things that affect your day-to-day lives. You’ll get to meet Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament and have your say on how emotional and mental health support for children and young people in Wales could be improved. This is a great opportunity to meet other young people and take part in our live consultation to make sure that your voice is heard.

13:00: Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament meeting the First Minister

For the second time during lockdown, Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament are meeting the First Minister to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on young people's lives. This time the Health Minister, Vaughan Gething MS, will be joining to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on young people's mental health, as well as the Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language, Eluned Morgan MS.

This will be a closed session, but it will be available to watch in its entirety via our social media before the end of the day.

 

Wednesday

10:00 - Yoga Session

Join Tara Bethan in a 30-minute yoga mindfulness session. You don't need to register – you can join the session via IGTV (Instagram TV) on the Welsh Youth Parliament account.

13:00 and 14:30: Let's Talk About Mental Health

Come and discuss emotional and mental health support together with Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament and Siôn Jenkins – ITV Wales journalist and correspondent, and presenter of Y Byd ar Bedwar and Ein Byd.
This session will be held twice. There will be a session at 13.00 through the medium of Welsh and a session at 14:30 through the medium of English.

Thursday

10:00: Workshop - What's on your mind?

13:00 and 14:30: Debate – Climate change: whose responsibility?

"Plastic isn't my problem, I put my rubbish in the bin, they have people for that".

Join in the debate. Steffan Griffiths, weather presenter and producer on S4C, will chair the session. There will be contributions from Members of the Youth Parliament and partners in the Littering and Plastic Waste field.

This session will be held twice. There will be a session at 13.00 through the medium of Welsh and a session at 14:30 through the medium of English.

Friday

11:00 Discussion Panel – Next Steps: Votes at 16

Take part in a discussion session on the right of 16-17 year olds to vote for the first time in the next Senedd elections in 2021, the challenges, and issues that are important to you and the digital resources that are available to help.
