Carers Week 2020

With everything going on in the world and the media at the moment I think it’s fair to say that once again young and young adult carers have gone un-noticed. Even though carers are being praised in the media, what about the un-paid and undervalued young carers who are a fundamental part of the economy and society.

We are still here and need support more than ever. Our caring roles have increased inordinately because we’re spending more time at home caring for our loved ones as there is no school to go to and there is no respite for a break, so our caring roles have very much become a 24/7 mammoth task.

Can you imagine the extra pressure this is having on young people on top of the global pandemic which is already causing young people across wales and the UK to struggle with their mental health even without caring roles?

So, this carers week I ask you to spread the word of the unspoken heroes who help keep our society working behind the scenes by raising awareness however you can. Thank you.
