Tommy was a Member of the first
Welsh Youth Parliament from 2018 to 2021.
The following was his candidate
statement for election to the first Welsh Youth Parliament:
My Key Issues are:
SAP Trained Staff in Schools
Plastic Free Schools
Learners having Life Skills Training
I would relish the opportunity to
be a WYP as I feel it is important for the young people of Merthyr and Rhymney
to have a well rounded representative speaking for them and making a change for
our future. I am fortunate enough to be a learner at Pen y Dre High School
(PYD) and we have recently won a Pearson Teaching Award for our links with
parents and the community. PYD learners are lucky to be given opportunities
where we work closely with our community and we have plenty of facilities to
hold meetings and community events.
As a GCSE Drama student, I have
taken part in many productions. I am confident with preparing for and
addressing large crowds and I grab every opportunity to make a difference to my
school and the young people here. I have always been a valued member of PYD's
extremely visible Student Parliament.
I have made my way up from
class representative, to year representative and am now preparing for my
application to be Head Boy. People should vote for me as I am approachable, a
good listener and when I have a plan I am determined to accomplish it promptly
and perfectly.
