Candidate Statement: I believe that people with disabilities
should be represented. I was born visually impaired so know how it feels to
have to work harder to equal my peers, and what it's like not to be given the
right support. I also know what it's like to be treated differently for both my
disability and being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, another group I am proud
to represent.
I would be a good advocate for change and give a voice to
others, including those in rural areas. I enjoy debates and giving
presentations but I keep an open mind, listen to others, respect their beliefs
and work well in a group. I was previously a member of the school council which
I enjoyed. I have a passion for performing arts so I’m comfortable in front of
crowds and can project my voice. I’m approachable and happy to educate people
about my disability.
I recently did a session for a primary school about living
with a visual impairment. Even the teachers learned a lot! I inspired a young
person with a visual impairment to be more confident and not let his disability
stop him trying new things and being independent.
