Statement: My name is Sultan Awolumate and I am from Nigeria, I live in
Swansea. I have come a long way since I arrived and learned a lot through my
experiences.
I want to be
a voice for Young people.
I would make
a good Welsh Youth Parliament member because I am able to understand people’s
struggle, being from a different background to a lot of young people I
understand how hard it is coming to a foreign country and having to learn new
language and emulate the environment. As a WYP member I will make sure the
voices of young people on the TGP Cymru Belong Project are heard to help influence positive change.
Three issues
stand out to me as affecting young people today. I would like to raise
awareness of lack of support for young people with mental health issues, how
hard it is for us to get jobs post 16 and the lack of Youth clubs which are so
important to make friendships and for wellbeing. These issues affect young
refugees and those seeking asylum and by listening to what they say I hope I can help be their voice and
contribute to making things better.
