Ruth was a Member of the first
Welsh Youth Parliament from 2018 to 2021.
The following was her candidate
statement for election to the first Welsh Youth Parliament:
My Key Issues are:
- Increase in homelessness.
- Decrease the voting age limit.
- Increase age for free healthcare.
I want to be a Welsh Youth Parliament
Member because many people talk about things that should change but struggle to
do anything about it. I want to gather opinions from people who feel that they
are unable to have a voice and speak on their behalf in Parliament. There are
many people who are too shy, embarrassed or not bothered to say any of their
ideas but I want to empower them by speaking for them.
I will consult with young
people in my area by listening to them carefully, gathering their ideas and
representing them in Parliament. I will reassure the young people that their
voices will definitely be heard!
Constituents should vote for me
because I will work hard and I am passionate about getting their voices heard
and their rights enforced.
I am organised, hard working, a
good speaker and a strong listener. I think I will make a good Welsh
Youth Parliament Member because I was a member of the School Council for 2
years. I was also a Welsh Ambassador for a year. I participate in charity work
with my family, which has included participating in 5k walks and a 12k bike
ride.
