Candidate Statement: I’m a student at Headlands School which
is a school for young people with additional learning needs. The school has
provided me with an opportunity to thrive in an environment that better suits
my needs as the mainstream education system wasn’t right for me and was holding
me back. Since joining the school, I have been supported and encouraged to
pursue my ambition of raising awareness of the issues that are incredibly
important to me and close to my heart. I was adopted at the age of 3 by my
wonderful adoptive parents and my experience has been very positive. I know
that this is not always the case for many other young people and my desire is
to help ensure that the adoption process is normalised and improved overall so
that many more can benefit from better experience.
