Candidate Statement: I am a 13-year-old Somali boy from
Cardiff, raised in a large, multicultural family that has shaped my identity. I
attend school on a full scholarship, which has allowed me to excel academically
and embrace my passions. I love sports such as swimming, football, and
athletics, which teach me discipline and teamwork. Academically, I enjoy
mathematics and science, as well as the arts and humanities. My extracurricular
activities include debating and participating in Mock United Nations (MUN)
conferences, where I develop skills in critical thinking and diplomacy.
As a learner ambassador and school council member, I
advocate for my peers, ensuring everyone feels heard. My Muslim faith and
Somali heritage are central to my identity, guiding my values and deepening my
connection to my roots. Growing up as a Black young person in Wales, I’ve
experienced challenges but remain committed to advocating for racial equality,
cultural awareness and climate justice. I believe young people can lead change
and create an inclusive future for all.
