Candidate Statement: My name is Taliesin. I was born and
bred in Torfaen. I would like to become an WYP Member due to the fact I am
passionate about politics, and my local community and have been for some time.
My key issues include a better funding system for schools, since church schools
like mine, don’t get as much funding, just because it is a church school.
Teacher recruitment and retention, the purchase of educational equipment and
vital building maintenance are pressing issues. I am very concerned about
alcohol and drug abuse, which is a big problem in Torfaen. I have seen lots of
young people drinking alcohol or vaping, which puts me at a sense of unease
when I think about it. I also want to work with the YS to develop policies that
reduce the impact of poverty on young people in Torfaen. Please vote for me!
