Candidate Statement: Hi My name is Ruben Kelman and attend Llanishen High in Cardiff. Over the past few years I have
become more interested in politics within Wales and the UK, and I have realised
how under represented the younger generation are. That is one of the many
reasons I am standing for election to the Welsh Youth Parliament. One of the
key issues I would focus on if elected is child poverty, 3 in 10 young people
in Wales live in poverty and that is wrong on so many levels. I have heard from
many young people in my school how hard it is for them to get free school meals
and that is something I want to change. That one meal a day could stop a child
from starving. Another huge issue amongst young people is mental health. The
pandemic has left many young people with lifelong mental effects. From personal
experience I know how much things like counselling can help but I also know how
hard it is to get access to these services. I have long campaigned for
widespread mental health services within Welsh schools. Please vote Ruben
Kelman for Cardiff North. Diolch.
