Laine was a Member of the first
Welsh Youth Parliament from 2018 to 2021.
The following was his candidate
statement for election to the first Welsh Youth Parliament:
My Key Issues are:
Free public transport for students
Healthy eating programmes in schools
Increased funding for wildlife trusts
I am Laine Woolcock and I am a life-long
resident of the Ogmore constituency. Growing up in Ogmore, I have an acute
awareness and appreciation of the issues that the younger generation of our
valley hold dear. I want to represent Ogmore because I am a staunch believer in
the equal representation of young people and I am steadfast in my determination
to bring about real, progressive change for our younger generation. I possess
an inherent passion for public service and, as a member of the Welsh Youth
Parliament, I will prioritize the issues that our younger generation cares
deeply about. That is why I have chosen to make public transport, education and
the environment the focal point of my candidacy and future work in the
parliament.
To ensure that my constituents'
views are represented fairly, I will hold events; wherein they can share their
views and ideas regarding contemporary issues. I will then make it my
prerogative to represent these views in the parliament. I believe that we can
achieve great things when we listen to others and this is a skill that I
believe will make me a good representative for young people, if I am
fortunately elected.
