Candidate Statement: My name is Jack, I am 15 & I live
in Swansea with my Mum, Louise. My Mum says that no matter what difficulties
you have, they are “added abilities”!
I love going to my church and meeting friends there and in
the clubs our church runs. I also belong to lots of clubs where I have made
lots of friends. I go surfing with an accessible surf group called Surfability
in Caswell in Gower. I have been doing this for the past 2 years. It has taught
me lots of patience, determination and I have met some amazing people from
different places with lots of different abilities.
I also go to a brilliant Deaf Club called Talking Hands
(Talking Hands Deaf Children and Young People Services). I have now been going
10 years. I have made lots of friends – they have taught me that I am not alone
with my Deafness, and there are many things that I can do in life. I have also
started to learn BSL with my friends, and we always do lots of very fun
activities. Due to Talking Hands supporting me, I have just appeared on the
2024 Countryfile Children in Need Ramble, and I was so proud to represent
Talking Hands. They have done so much for me, it is important for me to give
back to them!
One of my main passions is creating my own Stop Motion
Animations. I have taught myself to do this, and I love to learn new skills! It
has also taught me patience and I am determined to work in this area when I am
older. I am very proud of what I have achieved on my own so far.
I would love to me a member of the Welsh Youth Parliament
because I am very passionate about the three areas I have raised in my
application. Also, I want to prove to others that we all have a voice, no
matter what added abilities you may have!
