Eleri was a Member of the first
Welsh Youth Parliament from 2018 to 2021.
The following was her candidate
statement for election to the first Welsh Youth Parliament:
My Key Issues are:
Child Poverty
Anxiety linked to exam pressures
Negative impact of social media
When hearing about this
position I was extremely enthusiastic and excited to have a chance to represent
the views of young people in my local area. My home town is Merthyr Tydfil,
though I am proud to attend Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun, a large Welsh medium
secondary school in the Cynon Valley. I would love to be part of the Youth
Parliament and would relish the chance to become an elected member . This would
give me an opportunity to voice my opinion on the three key issues mentioned
previously.
I’ve been an elected member of
my school’s council for 3 years and in that time I’ve had extensive training on
the rights of children. The school council has allowed me a platform to
express the views and explore the issues that affect young people within my
school and local community.
I believe that young people
should vote for me as they can trust me to represent them and convey their
opinions in a clear, concise manner. I'm a very approachable character
and a confident public speaker. This is evident as I recently participated and
got through to the Welsh final of the RSPCA great debate held in Cardiff Bay.
